Audiology Services
Audiology offers diagnostic services for adolescents and adults with known or suspected hearing disorders, such as hearing loss and auditory processing disorders. Appropriate recommendations to reduce the impact of these disorders are provided. Services include hearing aid fittings, verification, orientation, rechecks, and aural rehabilitation. The WWRC Audiologist is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
Assistive Listening and Alerting Devices Center
In this program, the audiologist provides evaluation, consultation, and training for clients who are deaf or hard of hearing. Services include the selection and use of a variety of assistive devices to help clients live independently in their communities. Consultation is also available to rehabilitation counselors, case managers, employers, and other interested individuals regarding the selection and use of assistive listening devices. Some examples of ASLs include:
- personal listening systems
- alerting devices for alarm clocks
- smoke detectors
- motion detectors
- telephone with visual and/or vibrotactile signals
- amplified stethoscopes
- neckloops for telecoils or Bluetooth streaming
- amplified telephones
- TV listening devices
- FM systems
