Business and Information Technology (BIT) Training Area

WWRC’s Business/Information Technology (BIT) Training Area currently offers two (2) training programs in business and IT industry sectors. Each Training Program curriculum and expected knowledge, skills, and abilities are developed in partnership with a designated Occupational Advisory Committee.

Computer Support Specialist Training Program

Training Program Description: WWRC's Computer Support Specialist (CSS) Training Program is an approved program by the Accrediting Commission of the Council on Occupational Education (COE). This training program is one of four currently offered through the Business/Information Technology (BIT) Training Area within the Career and Workforce Development Division (CWDD).

By completing core assessment tasks prior to enrolling in any training program within the BIT Training Area, all newly enrolled students gain an introductory knowledge of computer concepts, information technology (IT) software, basic math skills, customer service skills, data entry skills, and English written and verbal comprehension skills.

Students enrolled in the CSS Training Program are given the opportunity to obtain a basic Customer Service workplace certification as well as to sit for the CompTIA 900-series A+ exam (a few students may earn Net+). Students are also given the opportunity to attain the Virginia Career Readiness Certificate.

At the completion of the training program, graduates are competent in the following:

  • 5 Windows Operating Systems (Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10)
  • Linux and Mac Operating Systems
  • Mobile Operating Systems, including Apple iOS and Android
  • Diagnosis and repair of laptop and desktop PCs
  • Repair of Smart Phones and Tablets
  • Remote Desktop Support and Repair
  • Troubleshoot and Repair of network issues
  • Repair of Smart TVs and 3D Printers

Program Length 1200 clock hours (192 training days/9.6 months)
Prerequisites:
  • Meet WWRC admission criteria
  • Completion or demonstrated mastery of BIT core assessment skills is required for full enrollment
Completion Requirements: A student must demonstrate mastery of a minimum 80% of core competencies, as documented on the Vocational Skills Record to be eligible for graduation.
Employment Settings: Graduates of the CSS Training Program acquire the skills and knowledge for employment in entry-level computer support specialist positions in business, industry, and government agencies, with Job Titles including: IT Specialist, Help Desk Analyst, Computer Technician, and Desktop Support Technician.

 

General Office/Administrative Assistant Training Program

Training Program Description: WWRC's General Office/Administrative Assistant Training Program is an approved program by the Accrediting Commission of the Council on Occupational Education (COE). This training program is one of four currently offered through the Business/Information Technology (BIT) Training Area within the Career and Workforce Development Division (CWDD).

By completing core assessment tasks prior to enrolling in any training program within the BIT Training Area, all newly enrolled students gain an introductory knowledge of computer concepts, information technology (IT) software, basic math skills, customer service skills, data entry skills, and English written and verbal comprehension skills.

Students enrolled in the General Office/Administrative Assistant Training Program are given the opportunity to obtain a basic Customer Service workplace certification and the Virginia Career Readiness Certificate.
